A POWERFUL WINTER STORM WILL AFFECT THE REGION TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY. THIS SYSTEM WILL PRODUCE 6 TO 12 INCHES OF SNOW WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA BY WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THUNDER-SNOW MAY OCCUR TUESDAY NIGHT ALONG WITH VERY HEAVY SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES AN HOUR.
AS THE SYSTEM MOVES OFF TO THE EAST LATE TUESDAY NIGHT... NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 25 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS OVER 50 MPH. THIS WILL CREATE WIDESPREAD BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW AND REDUCED VISIBILITIES. WHITEOUT CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED AT TIMES IN RURAL AND OPEN AREAS. TRAVEL WILL BECOME DIFFICULT... IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE.
